It's been awhile since Naomi Watts earned her last Best Actress nomination, way back in 2004 for her performance in 21 Grams. I'd say she should've received another for Fair Game, but that's an old argument not worth having now. She may be in line for another with the harrowing survival drama, The Impossible, but if that fails I think she's all but a lock to earn one next year for Diana, in which she plays the late Princess of Wales.
Formerly titled Caught in Flight, the film is directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, and centers on the final years of her life when she was involved romantically with Dr. Hasnat Kahn(Naveen Andrews), whom many thought to be the true love of her life. A pair of new images have been released, which again show the uncanny resemblance.Kind of remarkable that she's also in line to play another famous blond, Marilyn Monroe, in a biopic from Andrew Dominik(Killing Them Softly).
There's no release date for Diana just yet, but it'll probably hit the festival circuit soon. [Kino]
