Anne Hathaway to star in adaptation of Shakespeare's 'The Taming of the Shrew'

She already shares the name of William Shakespeare's wife, so isn't it about time Anne Hathaway star in one of his most famous stories? Fresh off her Golden Globe win for Les Miserables, The Wrap reports that Hathaway is set to lead an adaptation of Shakespeare's comedy, The Taming of the Shrew.

Written by Abi Morgan(Shame, The Iron Lady), this version will be set in mid-20th century Italy, with Hathaway likely to take on the lead role of Katherina, the titular "shrew" who is manipulated into marriage with the slick Petruchio. The story has been adapted numerous times, most famously with Elizabeth Taylor and her husband Richard Burton. Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt featured in 10 Things I Hate About You, a loose adaptation of the tale.

Hathaway just saw a large gap open up in her schedule with the delay of Robopocalpse, so this should fit right in pretty well. She'll also be lending her voice to the animated sequel, Rio 2.
