A handful of new images have appeared for movies that couldn't be more different than one another. Some are indie festival darlings, others blockbuster tentpoles, and there's even an animated feature thrown in there for good measure. Enjoy.
The Sundance Film Festival is right around the corner, and one of my most anticipated films to catch there is The Spectacular Now. While it's flying low on the radar for many, there's every reason to believe it'll be a major player very soon. The film sports an incredible roster of talent both in front of and behind the camera, with James Ponsdoldt(Smashed) directing, along with young stars Shailene Woodley(The Descendants) and Miles Teller(Rabbit Hole). Not only that, the script comes from Michael H. Weber and Scott Neustadter, who wrote this little movie called (500) Days of Summer, which was my top movie of 2009. A pair of new images have emerged for the film, which follows the budding relationship between a high school outcast(Woodley) and a bad boy(Teller) with an alcohol problem. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Brie Larson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Kyle Chandler co-star.
Next month sees Bruce Willis donning the beat up white tanktop of John McClane in A Good Day to Die Hard. Actually, since it's set in frigid Russia, the tanktop probably won't be making an appearance. According to this image, he'll be wearing sleeves alongside his son, Jack(Jai Courtney) as they square off against Russian terrorists or something. Directed by John Moore, the film has recently gained an R-rating, which is at least a small reason for confidence. It opens on February 14th.
It's a bad thing when I haven't heard of an animated film featuring the voices of Brendan Fraser, Jessica Alba, Sofia Vergara, and more, right? Escape from Planet Earth is a 3D family adventure about an alien astronaut(voiced by Rob Corddry) who must rescue his hero brother from the clutches of the evil Shanker, voiced by William Shatner. Director Cal Brunker recently worked as a storyboard artist on Despicable Me. Look for the film to touch down on February 14th.
And finally, the first images from A Single Shot, an indie thriller that totally evaporated from my memory but has recently been added to the Berlin Film Festival slate. Directed by David M. Rosenthal(Janie Jones), it stars Sam Rockwell as a hunter on the run from killers looking to reclaim a lost fortune. This certainly looks like a dark and desolate picture, and with a cast including Jeffrey Wright, Jason Isaacs, William H. Macy, Melissa Leo, and Kelly Reilly, expectations are high.
