Alfonso Cuaron's 'Gravity' lands October release date

How long have we been waiting for Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity, anyway? Two years? Three years? The production problems are well-documented at this point, up to and including getting knocked off of last year's schedule entirely. More than six years after his awesome Children of Men, we can finally expect to see Gravity hitting theaters this October 4th.

Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, the VFX-heavy, ambitious project follows a pair of astronauts trying to get back to Earth after a spacewalking accident destroys their space station. Shot in 3D, the film is said to feature an incredible 20-minute opening tracking shot. Cuaron used them to amazing effect in Children of Men, so I'm anxious to see how he employs it now with a bigger budget and grander scope.  Hopefully we'll start getting some images and a trailer soon.

That weekend is jam-packed, with Gravity facing off against Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, The Delivery Man with Vince Vaughn, Paranoia with Gary Oldman, and the 3D re-release of Star Wars: Episode III- Revenge of the Sith. Which will you be seeing that weekend?
