New trailer for Guillermo Del Toro's 'Pacific Rim'

Warner Bros. has put together a brand new trailer for Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim as part of Qualcomm's presentation at CES. Del Toro was in Las Vegas to introduce the footage himself, adding to a busy few days which has seen him also doing press to promote Mama, the upcoming horror film he produced which stars Jessica Chastain.

The new footage blends much of what we've already seen, but adds quite a bit of new stuff into the mix. This one puts a greater focus on the human characters, including Idris Elba as the leader of the human army, while still maintaining the spectacle of the previous trailer. Del Toro looks to have used every single drop of that $200M+ budget Legendary Pictures apparently threw his way.

Starring Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins, and Ron Perlman, Pacific Rim opens on July 12th.

PLOT: When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
