Brad Pitt may play Biblical villain 'Pontius Pilate'

Brad Pitt's probably hoping his 2013 will be a lot better than his 2012. Sure, he starred in Killing Them Softly, a fantastic film that critics loved, but it was mostly ignored by audiences. Next year he's already got the delayed World War Z, Ridley Scott's The Counselor, and Steve McQueen's Twelve Years A Slave. Yep, much more promising, I'd say. With so much already done and in the can, Pitt's free to get risky again, like playing one of the greatest villains of all-time.

Deadline reports that Pitt is circling the lead role in Pontius Pilate, which we learned about last summer. While no director is attached, we know the script comes from Vera Blasi(Woman on Top), and has an epic scope similar to Gladiator and Braveheart. The story follows Pilate, a simple warrior who becomes just another piece in the political machine, becoming the prefect of Judea and fatefully crossing paths with some guy named Jesus Christ. That troublemaker.

We'll see if anything comes out of this, but Pitt has been known to put his name to plenty of films.
