Up until now, Paul Schrader and Bret Easton Ellis have done a pretty good job of keeping the true nature of The Canyons well-hidden. But you can only hide behind faux-trailers for so long, and I'd begun to suspect the reason they did it was because the actual film was either terrible or tough to market. Judging by these three minutes of newly released footage, I think it may be both.
Starring Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen, the film is supposedly an LA-set story of sexual and professional obsession amongst a bunch of 20-somethings, but judging by this clip it looks like a really cheap single-room thriller. There's not a whole lot of dialogue here, but once the situation blows up you kind of miss the silence. Let's just say that Deen doesn't sound like someone who gets a whole lot of practice with modulating his emotions.
I still want to see how The Canyons pans out. I've got nothing but respect for the way they wrangled up the funding for it, so however it gets released you can count on me plunking down my dollars for it. Plus I NEED to see what the f**k Gus Van Sant is doing in this thing.[via BleedingCool]
