Only a couple of years ago, Matthew McConaughey was known more for taking his shirt off than his acting, and it appeared he was perfectly fine with that. But he's done a complete 180 on his career, working with a string of today's best directors in William Friedkin, Richard Linklater, Jeff Nichols, Lee Daniels, and Steven Soderbergh, leading many to consider him a future Oscar-winner if the momentum keeps up. One sure to way to stay on top would be to tackle Christopher Nolan's eagerly-awaited science fiction film, Interstellar.
Deadline reports that Nolan has offered the Interstellar lead to McConaughey, playing a character named Cooper. While "offer stories" ten to be tenuous things, it's also notoriously difficult to gain any information on a Nolan project. What we know is that the film is based on an old script by Nolan's brother, Jonathan, and follows a group of explorers who venture into a wormhole. Time travel and alternate dimensions will factor in, pulling from concepts dreamed up by physicist Kip Jones. Nolan is rewriting his brother's script, merging it with some of his own ideas.
McConaughey is currently earning rave reviews, and early Oscar buzz for his performance in Jeff Nichols' Mud, so signing up for Nolan's latest would be icing on the cake. Interstellar will land in theaters on November 7th 2014.
