Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes intro 'Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie' trailer

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes have a new movie coming out, but no it isn't Clerks 3. Not yet, anyway. It's Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie, the R-rated animated film bringing back everyone's favorite pair of New Jersey potheads. The trailer for it has been issued, and in the intro Kevin Smith reveals it only cost about $69,000 to produce. He manages to wedge that nugget of info in-between spilling all of Mewes' dirty laundry. Not that we don't already know it, but the emphasis on his drug-fueled past is a bit odd.

The film will be taken on tour, similar to Red State, as part of those crazy and quite expensive Q&A's with the duo. Hey, they gotta recoup the money somehow. Tickets for the shows are on sale right now, so go here for all of the tour dates. As for the trailer, it's definitely a low-budget offering with some really choppy animation. It reminds me a little too much of the short-lived Clerks animated series, which took all of the pop culture references Smith is famous for, and stripped them of most of their wit and intelligence. But I can't deny smiling at all of the throwbacks to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Star Wars, and more.

The film was directed by Steve Stark, and will begin going on tour this April with each show being converted into podcast. If it does well enough I wouldn't be surprised to see more of them in the future. Check out the trailer below....
