'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' teases the mysterious Ravencroft Institute

Marc Webb is clearly aiming to give The Amazing Spider-Man sequel a more sinister flavor, despite adding some of Spidey's most colorful and silly villains into the mix. The last two days have seen Webb tweeting a pair of images featuring the foreboding logo of the Ravencroft Institute, including one that suggests Colm Feore's character will be heavily involved with them.

There was a time when it appeared Feore could be playing Norman Osborn, but we know it will be the reliable Chris Cooper possibly slipping into the Green Goblin suit. Feore's role remains unclear, but it's likely he's the head of Ravencroft, which in the Marvel Universe is a correctional facility for supervillains. Think of it as the Marvel version of Batman's Arkham Asylum.

Rhino and Elektro have been held at Ravencroft in the past, and we know they'll be portrayed in the film by Paul Giamatti and Jamie Foxx. We could be looking at a jail break situation, with Spider-Man swinging to the rescue.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2nd 2014.
