Dwayne Johnson on the new 'Fast & Furious 6' poster, but will he be back for 'Fast 7'?
It's safe to say that Dwayne Johnson has had the spring movie season in a headlock, and he's far from finished. Between the better than expected returns on Snitch and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Johnson has proven he's a reliable box office star, and he'll likely do it again in just a few weeks when Fast & Furious 6 races into theaters. The film will bring back his Agent Luke Hobbs character, who is featured on the latest character poster. But with rumors of a potential Hobbs spinoff, the question is now being raised whether Johnson will have time to come back at all.
As the hottest star in Hollywood right now, Johnson has a lot on his plate. Vin Diesel has said that filming on Fast & Furious 7 is to begin this summer, and the accelerated schedule is a large reason why series director Justin Lin dropped out. James Wan has apparently taken over the job, but now Johnson is expressing concern that the timing may not work out for him. Here's what he told Collider about the situation...
Johnson: [A Summer shoot] is not possible for me because I’m shooting Hercules this summer starting in 6 weeks in Budapest, so, possible for them I’m not too sure. I haven’t heard anything about that and I’m pretty sure I would have gotten a phone call pretty early in the morning if that was the real plan. Not quite too sure though.
So could this be a catalyst for Universal to move forward with the Hobbs solo series? Or is it possible that Hobbs doesn't survive to reach that point? It doesn't seem likely that they'd film the next one without knowing exactly where Johnson stands.
Fast & Furious 6 opens on May 24th.
