Stanley Tucci joins 'Transformers 4'; film will be shot in IMAX 3D
CinemaCon has been taking place in Las Vegas, and Paramount has been doing it up big as part of their presentation. When it comes to taking these to the largest scale possible, the studio has none other than Michael Bay as the poster child for filmmaking excess. The Transformers director took to the floor to help make two major announcements regarding Transformers 4: one for behind the camera, and the other in front of it.
Bay hit the stage and revealed that Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz, and possibly Josh Duhamel will be joined by the always terrific Stanley Tucci. His role wasn't made clear as the "plot" is still being kept mostly under wraps. Bay has described it as a "chase from Hell" recently, and the most recent plot synopsis goes further: “a group of powerful, ingenious businessman and scientists [who] attempt to learn from past Transformer incursions and push the boundaries of technology beyond what they can control—all while an ancient, powerful Transformer menace sets Earth in his crosshairs.”
Paramount also announced a new deal with IMAX to shoot large portions of five major films using the format. Christopher Nolan's Interstellar is one, and Bay will shoot Transformers 4's biggest action set pieces using the smaller IMAX 3D digital cameras. Bay and IMAX seem like a natural fit, and I can only imagine how awesome all of that destruction is going to look now.
