New Posters for 'The Butler', 'Maniac', and 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones'

The Weinstein Company continues their Oscar push for Lee Daniels' The Butler by unveiling a brand new one-sheet for the civil rights drama. Emerging just a day after the first poster was released, this one sports the raised fist of black power solidarity and an evocative tagline, "One Quiet Voice Can Ignite a Revolution". The film, which stars Forest Whitaker as the real life White House butler Eugene Allen, doesn't look like it's the story of a revolutionary by any means. But it's still quite the striking image, and sells the historical relevance of Allen's life, in which he served under eight Presidents for more than three decades. The Butler serves up an August 16th release.

Were the folks at IFC Midnight channeling Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive with this new poster for Maniac? Certainly looks that way, so maybe they're trying to make a comparison to the levels of violence in both movies? Or perhaps they're comparing Elijah Wood's performance to that of Ryan Gosling? The film is a remake of the 1980 cult favorite slasher and has Wood as mannequin-obsessed serial killer with a thing for collecting scalps. Directed by Franck Khalfoun and co-starring Nora Arnezeder, Maniac paints the streets red on June 21st.

Two more posters showcase "instruments of good" Kevin Zegers and Jemima West in Harald Zwart's adaptation The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Starring Lily Collins as Clary Fray, the story centers on the New York teen as she learns she is a half-angel/half-human Shadowhunter, charged with defending the world against demons. Zegers plays fellow Shadowhunter Alec Lightwood, while West is his sister, Isabelle. Look for the film to hit theaters on August 23rd, and assuming it doesn't tank follow-ups are being planned.
