The First 'Paranoia' Trailer has Liam Hemsworth Stuck Between Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford
There are a lot of reasons to be a little excited about the upcoming corporate spy flick, Paranoia. First of all, it offers the opportunity to see Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman going toe-to-toe, which is worth the price of admission alone. It also stars the relatively inoffensive (ringing endorsement, I know) Liam Hemsworth and the always welcome Amber Heard. Plus, the script was written by the red hot Jason Dean Hall, who provided the screenplay for Steven Spielberg's American Sniper. All quality elements that should amount to an enjoyable film, right? But...wait, who's directing this thing? Oh yeah...it's Robert Luketic.
The first trailer for Paranoia has arrived, and...well, it looks like Robert Luketic directed it. He's the guy who gave us the polished turds 21, Killers, and The Ugly Truth. Yeah, he also directed the inexplicably lucrative Legally Blonde, but that was all Reese Witherspoon and you know it. In Paranoia, Hemsworth plays a young Brooklynite (he's a "bridge and tunnel" guy, y'know? *snort*) who decides to climb the corporate ladder by helping his boss spy on a rival's company. In the midst of way too many twists and double-crosses, spoiled in the footage it seems, Hemsworth gets into a ton of trouble but at least he gets to nail Amber Heard. That seems to have been the point, despite the little bit with Richard Dreyfuss as his cancer-stricken father.
This movie was done better a couple of years ago when it was called Duplicity. Might be better off popping that into the old Blu-Ray player. Paranoia hits theaters on August 16th.
