First Poster and Images from Marvel One-Shot 'Agent Carter'

With Captain America: The Winter Soldier keeping the patriotic Avenger in the present, a number of his WWII colleagues have mostly been left behind. One of those who we sadly won't be seeing kick any butt is Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, who was a firecracker in the first film and will make a brief cameo in the sequel. Fortunately, Marvel is smart enough to recognize just how popular a character she was, and have put together a One-Shot short film just for her, appropriately titled Agent Carter.

Making its debut at Comic-Con, just as Item 47 did a year ago, the film is due to be a part of the Iron Man 3 Blu-Ray/DVD special features. I was there at the premiere last year and will be dutifully scouring the city in hopes of being there for this one, as well. Entertainment Weekly have dropped the first images and a vintage poster, along with some choice quotes from Marvel Studios co-president Louis D'Esposito about where the story fits in the overall scheme of things...

D'Esposito: “Not everyone can be frozen in ice from that period, so it was: How do we tell another Hayley Atwell story? It’s a year since Cap plunged into the ocean. And in our mind, we said there’s a few SSR offices. If you want to relate it to now, it’s like the OSS, the precursor to the CIA. The SSR is the precursor to S.H.I.E.L.D. There’s some satellite offices in New York and right now their primary concern is getting Zodiac. Zodiac in the books has been many many different things. We just want you to know it’s deadly, it’s important, bad guys are guarding it, and it’s imperative she gets it.”

The West Wing star Bradley Whitford plays a government official getting in Carter's way, which is pretty cool in and of itself, but it also sounds like the introduction of Zodiac could be a major plot point later on. Then again I thought the same thing about Item 47, and nothing has really been done with that storyline. Iron Man 3 hits store shelves on September 24th, and you can pre-order it here.
