Sandra Bullock Not Interested in 'The Heat' Sequel

When it comes to sequels, Sandra Bullock's track record is..well, let's just say it isn't good. And it looks like her past following up some of her most successful films is coloring her decision to return for a sequel to The Heat. While talking to EW about her starring role in Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity, she expressed little interest in reuniting with director Paul Feig or co-star Melissa McCarthy on another cop comedy....

Bullock: .“I know they say never say never, but right now, I can’t imagine it. I don’t want to ruin what Melissa and I had. If a miracle happens where [a script] shows up that really and truly outdid the first and provided an experience that was better than the first one, then I would look at it. But I’m not there.”

Before The Heat had ever nabbed its first perp, 20th Century Fox had already brought back Katie Dippold to begin work on a script, so it sounds like the studio was pretty confident Bullock would return. It also suggests they may be willing to move on without her, a move that would likely thrust McCarthy into the dominant comedic role rather than sharing the spotlight with someone of equal stature. The chemistry between the two ladies was a large reason for the film's success, and losing one will probably kill any enthusiasm fans may have for a sequel. For what it's worth, Bullock knows full well that movies like Miss Congeniality 2 and Speed 2: Cruise Control (uugggghhh) are black marks on her career that will never truly go away.

Bullock:  “If you look back on my illustrious sequel work [laughs] nothing has proven successful. A sequel is such a daunting thing, because you don’t want to lose the magic and the charm of the first one.”
