Louis Leterrier Back for 'Now You See Me' Sequel
The magician heist film Now You See Me boasted an all-star cast that could stand up to any of the summer blockbusters, yet it was probably the biggest surprise hit of them all. The film earned $116M against some stiff competition, enough to have Summit Entertainment green lighting a sequel. While we still don't know the plot or who might be returning in front of the camera, we do know that Leterrier will be back in the driver's seat.
Comingsoon caught up with the director to talk about the film's upcoming DVD/Blu-Ray release, and confirmed that not only will he be returning, but that a sequel was always in the cards...
Leterrier: “I’m currently, not writing, but we’re coming up with the story, the plot, the everything, the twist and the new characters and everything. It was always at least a diptych, two movies, to tell one long story, so yeah, I’m very much involved in it. I don’t know if it’s going to be my next movie. I know we want to do it pretty fast but I might be able to do another movie in between.”
Calling it a "diptych" would seem to indicate that the whole story was mapped out ahead of time, but then why would they need to come up with the new story? By comparison, The Place Beyond the Pines was a triptych, three movies that folded into one overarching story. One has to assume that Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, and Mark Ruffalo are returning because their characters are so essential, but nothing is set in stone at this point.
Now You See Me 2 is expected to begin filming next year.
