Teaser Trailer for James Franco's 'Child of God'

Mock James Franco if you want. Make fun of his supposed pretentiousness, his multitude of projects and his upcoming reality show; but when you're done it might be a good idea to take stock of the challenging films he's been bold enough to take on. He hit Park City earlier this year with the controversial Cruising reimagining Interior. Leather Bar, before dropping an adaptation of William Faulkner's As I Lay Dying on us at Cannes. With Venice here and TIFF right around the corner, Franco is back and bringing Cormac McCarthy's supposedly unfilmable book Child of God to the big screen, and now we have our first trailer for it.

The teaser doesn't provide much insight into how the film comes together, providing us little more than the face of star Scott Haze. He plays Lester Ballard, one of McCarthy's most memorable characters, a Tennessee man who flees society to live in the mountains alone indulging in crime and debauchery. Just judging by the grimy look of this footage, and the nasty things that occur in the story itself, expect to want a shower immediately after.

Co-starring Franco, Jim Parrack, and Tim Blake Nelson, Child of God is still seeking distribution.
