'Paranormal Activity 5' Lands A Director You've Never Heard Of

Does it feel like this Halloween is going to lack that little extra something? Does it feel like something is missing that you can't quite put your finger on? For horror geeks it's probably the lack of a Paranormal Activity film to go along with all of the haunted festivities, as Paramount moved the fifth (!!!!) film in the blockbuster series to next year. While that some may see that as a reason to celebrate, it's not like we're getting a respite as there will instead be two Paranormal Activity movies in 2014, with one the Latino-themed 'The Marked Ones'. As for Paranormal Activity 5, the pieces are finally starting to come together as pair of screenwriters and director you've never ever heard of have come aboard.

Franchise editor Gregory Plotkin will make his feature debut, directing from a script by unknowns Jason Pagan and Andrew Deutschman. These will be the guys responsible for extending the increasingly convoluted storyline that started out as a simple demonic possession tale that took advantage of the hot "found footage" trend. That style has since died out, but prior directors Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost (Catfish) gave it a new coat of paint in the last two films by putting their documentary and social networking skills to good use. There's no reason to think that Plotkin will be able to do the same, but who knows? Having worked on the last three films he's at least intimate with the material.

Paranormal Activity 5 will terrorize theaters on October 24th 2014. [Deadline]
