Joe Johnston to Direct Alien Invasion Flick 'Extinction'

Since directing Captain America: The First Avenger back in 2011, we haven't seen much from Joe Johnston. But that doesn't mean his name has been out of the news, as he's been rumored for various projects, most notably a Boba Fett spinoff movie. While that may still happen, he's lining up something closer to happening, like the sci-fi film Extinction.

THR reports Johnston is in talks to direct the alien invasion thriller, which features a Black List script by Spenser Cohen. It's been described as The Sixth Sense meets Cloverfield, and the plot synopsis seems to bear that out...

"When Peter’s dreams about an alien invasion become reality, he fights desperately to protect his family while on the run from the invading forces. Along the way, he starts to question the reality of the world he’s living in..."

Johnston last helmed a low budget horror titled Not Safe for Work that has yet to find distribution.
