When it became obvious that Edgar Wright's Ant-Man would feature more than one version of the costumed Avenger, the question became who would be starring alongside Paul Rudd. He never really seemed like a sure fit for the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym, but was perfect for his successor, Scott Lang. Now we know for sure who will be portraying Pym in the movie, and it's someone who just took home a Golden Globe at last night's ceremony.
Michael Douglas, who won last night for playing Liberace in Behind the Candelabra, has been cast as Hank Pym, not as the villain as had been reported earlier by some. Pym is one who originally created the evil android Ultron, seen in next year's The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and also the inventor of "Pym Particles" that allow him to shrink and grow in size. The storyline co-written by Wright and Joe Cornish is said to be based on the 'To Steal an Ant-Man' storyline that saw Lang stealing the Ant-Man costume and using its powers for personal gain.
While some may see Michael Douglas joining the Marvel Universe as a shock, let's not forget they've already got Robert Redford in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Glen Close in Guardians of the Galaxy. Basically nothing Marvel does at this point is a surprise, and their ability to lure in veterans to mix with the youngsters is extraordinary.
