Alexis Knapp Enters 'The Dorm'; Nick Cannon Back for 'Drumline 2'; Jay Baruchel Joins 'The Ten O'Clock People'

* The leggy Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect) has signed on to star in MTV's upcoming horror film, The Dorm. She'll play Vivian, a shy, awkward college freshman who undergoes a total transformation into a sexy seductress thanks to her dorm mate. Cassie Steele (Degrassi) and Max Lloyd Jones (MTV's Teen Wolf) co-star. Rachel Talaly, best known for Tank Girl and Freddy's Dead, is directing with a script by Sean Hood (Halloween: Resurrection), so there's plenty of horror pedigree here. Could this be MTV's new Scream-esque franchise? [Deadline]

* Considering 2002's Drumline was a modest box office success and generally well-received amongst the African-American community, it was surprising to not hear much talk of a sequel. But now twelve years later we're finally getting one thanks to VH1, who are developing it as a TV sequel. Nick Cannon will return to co-star and produce Drumline: A New Beat which will center on an upper class Brooklyn girl who heads to a Louisiana university to revitalize their once-prominent drumline. A lead actress still needs to be found before production begins this spring for a premiere in the fall.

* Jay Baruchel may have been the least recognizable face in This is the End (a running gag in the film, actually), but he's also one of the busiest. Next week he'll be seen in the Robocop remake, and now he's just agreed to lead Stephen King adaptation, The Ten O'Clock People. Justin Long had been eyed for the horror some time back with Rachel Nichols co-starring, and when Long dropped out Chris Evans circled it for a time. Now all are gone and Baruchel is on board to star and produce, with Tom Holland (Child's Play) directing and penning the script about a smoker attempting to kick the habit and uncovers a frightening aspect of reality in the process.
