Marvel has been better than anybody with out-of-the-box casting choices, and mostly led to making new stars out of youngsters like Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, and soon Chris Pratt (what's with all the Chris'?). But Hollywood legends are also getting their shot to play in the superhero sandbox, beginning with Robert Redford in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
A new poster has been released for Redford as SHIELD higher-up, Alexander Pierce. It's pretty clear there will be some tension between Cap and SHIELD, and it looks like Redford will be right in the middle of it. You don't bring in somebody like him just to sit on the sidelines, and in a recent interview with EW Redford talked about experiencing everything an opportunity like this has to offer....
Redford: "One of the reasons that I did it was I wanted to experience this new form of filmmaking that's taken over where you have kind of cartoon characters brought to life through high technology."
"The Avengers series is a product of high technology playing a major role in the new order of filmmaking so I wanted to experience that - I just wanted to know what that was like and I had that opportunity, so for me it was like stepping into new terrain just to experience what it was like."
Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens April 4th.
