'Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers' Movie in the Works at Disney

Between Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, and Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Disney occupied a larger chunk of my weekday afternoon viewing than I'd care to admit. Heck, they took up a lot of space in my video game library, too. The '80s and early '90s was an especially fertile creative time for the Mouse House, at least on the small screen, and it's surprising that they haven't really gone back to it again until now, with word that a live-action/CG Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers movie is in the works.

Disney has picked up a pitch by commercials director Robert Rugan, who is dreaming up a fresh update on the 'toon that is being looked at as a Rescue Rangers "origin" of sorts. The series starred the brainy Chip and the goofy Dale leading a private detective agency that sent them on globe-hopping adventures battling nefarious animal villains. They had a lot of help on their cases from the powerhouse Aussie, Monterey Jack, and his housefly sidekick, Zipper. Chip and Dale both had the hots for Gadget, their plucky mechanic and pilot, although to the best of my memory neither ever got with her.

Hopefully Disney goes in a different direction than the terrible Alvin and the Chipmunks movies, but considering they've made over $1B total they may not be inclined to. [THR]
