Jane Levy and Lucas Till Strap In for 'Monster Trucks'

Look what The LEGO Movie hath wrought! Actually, the smashing success of that film may or may not have anything to do with a sudden flood of toy movies headed our way, but it certainly didn't help. And since studios and toy companies are more intent than ever on repackaging old toys into something new and marketable, we're now getting a movie based on Hasbro's Monster Trucks. Isn't this sort of redundant with a Hot Wheels movie already in the works? Eh, whatever.

Anyway, Monster Trucks was first revealed last year but now it's definitely moving forward as a live-action/CG hybrid directed by Ice Age's Chris Wedge. The Wrap reports that Paramount is eying Jane Levy (Evil Dead, Suburgatory) and Lucas Till (X-men: First Class) to lead the film, which they hope will turn into "a 'Transformers'-like franchise". Till, who is reprising his role as Havok in X-men: Days of Future Past, will play the generic "bad boy with a good heart" (seriously, it says that), while Levy is described as a girl who is like what Tina Fey would be in high school.  So...smart, snarky, neurotic, approachable, unaware of her beauty. Got it, and ugh.

No details on the plot cooked up by writers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, but the toys are basically just....well, monster trucks. Maybe we'll get lucky and it will be a horror with the trucks gaining sentience and trampling over the city? Probably not. Monster Trucks films this summer and rolls into theaters May 29th 2015.
