Chris Evans Clarifies his Contract Status with Marvel
A few days ago Chris Evans kicked a hornet's nest by daring to talk about his career outside of the Marvel Universe. As he moves into a new phase as a director, recently helming his first feature, 1:30 Train, he mentioned the possibility of taking a break from acting once his Marvel contact was up. He may still do that, but in a recent interview with Collider for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Evans makes it clear he loves being an Avenger and won't be going anywhere for quite awhile....
Evans: "I gotta watch what I say. I will absolutely clarify. I have a six-movie contract with Marvel and I absolutely plan on fulfilling them. This is without a doubt the biggest blessing in my life. Marvel has literally changed the game for me, and they make great movies. I did direct last year and it was a really fantastic experience, I really enjoyed it. So I’m certainly looking to do that a bit more, so when it comes to exploring other acting jobs I may not be as proactive in trying to find those, I may kind of stick with my Marvel universe in terms of getting in front of the camera, and then getting behind the camera outside of it.”
It's possible that once his contract is up we'll see the Captain America franchise set aside, and Evans can ink a deal that allows for him to make appearances in The Avengers movies or sporadic cameos elsewhere. Robert Downey Jr. has such a deal, and gets paid handsomely for it. That would fee him up to fully pursue directing. Who knows? Maybe he'll direct a Marvel movie in the future?
