Chris Evans Thinks He'll be "Done" with Marvel by 2017
The future for Chris Evans is probably going to be behind the camera as a director, rather than throwing a shield as Captain America. Over the last couple of weeks the actor has spoken quite openly about his desire to pursue a directing career, which began with his recently-wrapped debut, 1:30 Train. He's also made clear that he would fulfill every obligation on his 6-film Marvel contract, and while the door is still open for him to return, Evans sounds as if he's ready to move on.
In a recent interview with Variety, Evans lays out what's coming up next and speculated on exactly when he'll hang up Cap uniform for good...
Evans: “We can do this out loud. (‘Avengers 2’) will shoot till August. I wouldn’t be surprised if for all of 2015, we didn’t do a movie. I bet by 2017, I’ll be done.”
That sounds a little bit off since Captain America 3 is slated for May 6th 2016, which should mean it would shoot during 2015. Unless something happens in Captain America: The Winter Soldier or Avengers: Age of Ultron that prevents Steve Rogers from being in more movies? There has been speculation Sebastian Stan, who plays the Winter Soldier, could take up the Captain America mantle at some point. There are at least two more films left on Evans' deal, and possibly a third.
We'll see what happens but right now the end does appear to be in sight for Evans' time as Captain America.
