Dwayne Johnson is a Legend in First Trailer for 'Hercules'
Typically whenever there are two major Hollywood productions on the same subject, the one winning the race into theaters has the upper hand. In the case of Hercules, Kellan Lutz starred as the Greek mythological hero mere weeks ago in The Legend of Hercules, and not only did audiences reject it but the film was laughably awful. So there are two ways to look at Brett Ratner and Dwayne Johnson's Hercules; either audiences will be anxious to see a more competent version (Ratner competent!?!!) of the character with a much bigger star, or they'll figure one Hercules movie was enough and stay away.
How it turns out we won't know until this summer but the first trailer has debuted at CinemaCon and in terms of scope, action, and the power Johnson seems to be bringing to the character it's no comparison. Based on the Radical Comics series, the story takes Herc back to the Thracian Wars when he and a group of mercenaries are training a king's army for an epic battle. Since it looks like the Nemean lion, Hydra and Erymanthian Boar make an appearance we'll also see Herc take on some of his famous Twelve Labors. I'm guessing they leave out the whole cleaning of the Augean stables thing.
Also starring Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, and Joseph Fiennes, Hercules opens July 25th.
