"I am a nymphomaniac, and I love my filthy, dirty lust". So says Charlotte Gainsbourg's Joe at the beginning of the trailer for Lars von Trier's sexual epic, Nymphomaniac Vol. 2. The first film is out now On Demand, with a theatrical release arriving this Friday, and it's safe to say that parents will be dropping the kids off at Frozen before checking it out.
The first film saw Joe's carnal odyssey from innocent teen to sexual vampire, and coming full circle in her thoughts on love and romance. There's a lot that happens to her on the way, and yes much of it involves nailing a lot of dudes (including one played by Shia LaBeouf), but it's also a story about female power and many other ideas filtered through von Trier's twisted mind. The first chapter was one of my favorites out of Sundance and I have extremely high expectations for what comes next.
Nymphomaniac Vol. 2 arrives On Demand April 3rd, followed by a theatrical release on April 18th.
