First Images of Dwayne Johnson as 'Hercules'

Dwayne Johnson has been tweeting images from the set of Hercules for months, giving his fans a behind-the-scenes look at the Brett Ratner-directed summer blockbuster. Following on the heels of The Legend of Hercules released and quickly forgotten earlier this year, Johnson's film comes with much higher expectations, mainly because he seems like such a natural fit to play the Greek demigod. And now we have our first official looks at Johnson in the role he says he "was born to play".

Based on the Radical Comics series, Hercules: The Thracian Wars, the story takes place in a more grounded world than the mythological tales we're used to. Hercules is still very much a hero, and he's cashing in on his name as a mercenary until he and his group are hired to train a king's army for a major battle.

Co-starring  Joseph Fiennes, John Hurt, Ian McShane, Joe Anderson, Peter Mullan, and Rufus Sewell, Hercules opens July 25th.  [USAToday]
