Jennifer Jason Leigh and Bella Thorne to Lead New 'Amityville' Film; Franck Khalfoun Directing
When Dimension Films and the hit-makers at Blumhouse Productions announced a new chapter in the Amityville Horror series of movies, the plan was to give it the popular and inexpensive "found footage" motif. With the genre fading fast, that plan has now been scrapped just as a director and cast have been confirmed.
Bloody Disgusting has confirmed Franck Khalfoun, director of the recent Maniac reboot, will helm the Amityville film, the latest in the franchise begun with 1979's The Amityville Horror, about the famous haunted house in Long Island. Starring will be Jennifer Jason Leigh as a single mother who moves with her three kids into the infamous home, which has a terribly dark history. Co-starring will be Bella Thorne, the Disney starlet who has been making moves of late on the silver screen. She recently gained a role in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and will be seen in Blended opposite Adam Sandler.
This will be the 12th 'Amityville' movie, some more official than others. A 2005 reboot starred Ryan Reynolds, Chloe Moretz, Melissa George, and banked more than $100M without leading to any direct sequels.
Despite basically starting from scratch, the plan is still to release Amityville on January 2nd 2015.
