Live-Action/Animated 'Pink Panther' Movie in the Works
The likes of Peter Sellers, Steve Martin, Roberto Benigni, and Roger Moore have starred in a total of eleven The Pink Panther movies, most of which were directed by Blake Edwards. And while the literal "pink panther" turned up in the credit sequences for every film but two, the stories were always focused on Inspector Clousseau. The panther has had his own cartoon series, and he does a pretty good job hawking home insulation in those Owens Corning commercials, but when is he going to get his shot on the big screen? Well, how about now?
MGM is developing a live-action/CG hybrid film based on the Pink Panther cartoon character rather than Clousseau. David Silverman will direct, and he's angling to bring in fellow The Simpsons alum Michael Price to pen the screenplay which will resemble the tone resembling "the original Friz Freleng and David De Patie cartoons as well as that of Blake Edwards’ films.".
According to THR, this new film will be an international jewel heist caper, and that Clousseau will not appear at all. Nor will the Panther be able to speak, which should be interesting, but the classic Henry Mancini score will definitely be in place.
