This series of trailers all seem to be focused on the central theme that Maleficent is somehow misunderstood, or at the very least she's someone worthy of our sympathy. Here we see just a hint of the events that darkened her heart and led her to cast a terrible curse on Princess Aurora. Will audiences be willing to pay to see the fairy tale from a different angle? It kind of worked for Disney with Oz the Great and Powerful, but not on the scale they had hoped.
We'll probably have another ten trailers by the time Maleficent opens on May 30th.
