Secrets abound in regards to Christopher Nolan's next film, Interstellar, but that will be changing soon enough. With a storyline that involves wormholes, deep space travel, and corn (!?!), it's clear Nolan is planning on going sci-fi in a major way, and that intention becomes even more clear on the newly-released poster.
"Mankind was born on Earth. It was never meant to die there", is the tagline for the image and it does a good job of revealing very little about the plot. That will presumably come later this month when the new trailer debuts in front of Godzilla. But for those fortunate enough to be in the Washington, DC area (like us), the trailer is playing right now at the Lockheed Martin IMAX ahead of Hubble 3D, and here's how the Washington Post briefly describes it...
After a brief announcement, the trailer unspooled to show Matthew McConaughey driving his truck through corn fields while a lush orchestral score swelled in the background. Later, the fields had caught fire, an ominous dust cloud could be seen looming over a baseball game, and McConaughey (playing a character named Cooper) was reassuring his daughter that he loved her — right before being shot into space in order to save the world.
Previous plot descriptions have said the story would explore "the toll climate change has taken on agriculture, with corn the last crop to be cultivated." Doesn't sound too exciting but Nolan clearly has ambitious plans, which is why he was able to lure a star-studded cast of McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, David Oyelowo, Wes Bentley, Matt Damon, Topher Grace, Ellen Burstyn, and more. Interstellar opens November 7th.
