Could Jared Leto be Marvel's Doctor Strange?

Now that Marvel has locked in Sinister and The Day the Earth Stood Still director Scott Derrickson for Doctor Strange, the next step is finding someone to play titular Master of the Mystic Arts. Previous rumors have mentioned Mads Mikkelsen as having a role that isn't necessarily Strange, while Johnny Depp and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were briefly in the mix but aren't likely to happen. But according to Badass Digest, Marvel may have their hopes set on recent Oscar winner, Jared Leto.

The story goes that Marvel "likes" or "liked" Leto for the role of Doctor Strange, which would make for an interesting follow-up after his award winning performance in Dallas Buyers Club. He's already got the beard for it, too. That's all the information they have other than the possibility of Derrickson writing the script as he has with most of the films he's directed. Leto doesn't have anything major on the horizon so this could conceivably fit into his schedule, and he fits into Marvel's fondness for unexpected casting choices.

Doctor Strange is expected to be a big part of Marvel's next phase, which begins in 2015 with Ant-Man
