Michael Stuhlbarg Joins 'Doctor Strange' as a Character You Don't Know
Marvel is going all-out in casting up Doctor Strange, and they're aiming squarely at established veterans to fill the major roles. Just check out the lineup so far: Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton, Mads Mikkelsen, Rachel McAdams, and now you can add Steve Jobs and Boardwalk Empire's Michael Stuhlbarg to the list.
According to Variety, Stuhlbarg is taking on the role of Nicodemus West in the superhero film, and he's a character most people don't know and don't care about. However, he could be interesting on the big screen as played by Stuhlbarg. West was the surgeon who saved Strange's hands after his auto accident, but he couldn't fix the nerve damage. Out of concern he followed Strange to Kamar-Taj and received the same training from the Ancient One. The difference is that West quit his training early, returned home to New York City, and fought against the use of magic, including by Strange.
How any of that will fit into the movie is anybody's guess. Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange opens November 4th 2016.
