Trailer for 'Raging Bull' Sequel 'The Bronx Bull' is a Punch to the Gut

Here's a film you may have forgotten about or wished had died a quiet death. A few years ago we learned a sequel to Martin Scorsese's classic boxing biopic, Raging Bull, was getting an unauthorized sequel. While fans roared with displeasure, Jake LaMotta himself publicly praised the story and director Martin Guigui, even as images of the film looked embarrassingly bad. On the plus side, MGM sued and got the title changed to The Bronx Bull in an effort to get as much distance from it as possible, and judging by the new trailer they made the right call.

William Forsythe stars as the older LaMotta with Mojean Aria as the young version in a film that will attempt to fill in the gaps of the boxer's life that Scorsese and DeNiro didn't touch in Raging Bull. And basically this looks all kinds of terrible, at least on the dicey production side of things. Forsythe is no DeNiro but he's a capable actor and he seems to be giving his all and handling the physical aspects well enough. The supporting cast skews to the C-list with Paul Sorvino, Joe Mantegna, Penelope Ann Miller (!!!), Tom Sizemore, Cloris Leachman, and Natasha Henstridge co-starring.

Unsurprisingly, The Bronx Bull has yet to gain a release date. Go figure.
