Bummed by Edgar Wright leaving Ant-Man? Well, don't be. Not only has Marvel soldiered on without him, but Wright has moved on to much more interesting things. He's finally getting around to directing Baby Driver after years of sitting on the shelf, and now he's taking the helm for....a YA adaptation? Well yeah, and get this; it's also about bugs!
Wright has agreed to direct an adaptation of Grasshopper Jungle, based on Andrew Smith's YA novel which is described as a cross between Stand By Me and Attack the Block. Those are lofty comparisons but the tone would be right up Wright's alley. Scott Rosenberg (Beautiful Girls, High Fidelity) provides the screenplay which is a "coming-of-age story that focuses on an Iowa teen trying to come to grips with his own raging hormones and sexual feelings as he and his cohorts cause a deadly genetically engineered plague that unleashes an army of 6-foot-tall praying mantises. Those bugs live the life these guys wish for, acting on an insatiable appetite for fighting, food, and fornicating."
Wright will direct Baby Driver next before moving on to Grasshopper Jungle, but it sounds like he has found plenty to stay busy with. [Deadline]
