And this is how you drum up buzz before blowing the lid off at Comic-Con. A few months ago Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told us he had all of Marvel's movies mapped out through 2028, and while that seemed like a bit of a stretch because things change, we now know there's a plan in place at least through 2019. Marvel has just revealed five release dates for unknown titles starting in 2017 and stretching into 2019.
No word on what the films will be but we can certainly speculate. Guardians of the Galaxy arrives next month, followed by Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1st 2015, then Ant-Man kicks off Phase Three on July 17th 2015. Captain America 3 arrives on May 6th 2016, and then Marvel had two slots ready for unknown films on July 8th 2016, which will likely be for Doctor Strange, and then one on May 5th 2017.
The new release dates are July 28, 2017, November 3, 2017, July 6, 2018, November 2, 2018 and May 3, 2019.
So let's do some guesswork. We know Thor 3 is in the works and has writers lined up, and it makes sense to have that fill the May 2017 slot. July 2017 seems like a perfect date for Avengers 3, and there has been talk of a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy which will probably fill one spot. What else? Maybe the much talked-about solo Hulk film? Or is now the time for Black Panther to finally get his moment in the sun? There are way too many options out there, including a Black Widow movie, so we're just going to have to wait and see what news breaks at Comic-Con. With seven open dates needing to be filled we could be on the verge of one epic day of announcements.
