After making a well-received directorial debut with In the Land of Blood and Honey, Angelina Jolie finds herself in the Oscar discussion with her follow-up, the WWII drama Unbroken. But it turns out she may be eying some gold next year, too, and she's bringing along new hubby Brad Pitt. Jolie is wrote and is directing By the Sea, which will see her reunited with Pitt on screen for the first time since Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Filming only just began a few days ago, and now EW has released the first images along with a full plot synopsis:
Set in France during the mid-1970s, Jolie plays Vanessa, a former dancer, and Pitt is her husband Roland, an American writer. As they travel the country together, they seem to be growing apart, but when they linger in one quiet, seaside town they begin to draw close to some of its more vibrant inhabitants, such as a local bar/café-keeper (War Horse and A Prophet‘s Niels Arestrup, pictured below) and hotel owner (Richard Bohringer, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover.)
The most glamorous couple in Hollywood in an exotic local and colorful time period? What's not to like? No firm release date for By the Sea but you can expect to see it next year.
