Neil Burger Directing 'All the Old Knives', Lenny Abrahamson takes 'Neverhome', Andrew Adamson Helms 'Breath of Bones'

Neil Burger got the Divergent franchise off the ground earlier this year, but decided not to return for its sequel, Allegiant, so he could pursue other projects. One of those will be All the Old Knives, which he'll direct based on Olen Steinhauser's upcoming book set in "the idyllic town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, where two ex-lovers —one CIA spy and one ex-CIA spy— meet for dinner and to reminisce. They relive their memories of the disastrous hijacking of Royal Jordanian Flight 127, which ended in the death of all onboard, a failure that haunts the CIA’s Vienna station to this day. The question is whether Henry has come to dinner to rekindle the romance or to get to the bottom of a conspiracy. It also becomes clear that one of the ex-lovers may not survive the meal." Whoa. That sounds potentially amazing. The book hits store shelves next year, and will be adapted for the screen by Steinhauser himself. [Deadline]

Lenny Abrahamson has been on quite a roll. A heap of praise was lavished on him for Jack Reynor's breakout role in What Richard Did, but his greatest achievement was the oddball musical comedy, Frank, starring Michael Fassbender. He'll head back into serious territory for an adaptation of Laird Hunt's Civil War novel, Neverhome. The newly-published novel sounds a little like a Civil War-era Joan of Arc, following a "farmer’s faithful wife who leaves her husband to don the uniform of a Union soldier. Disguised as a man, she becomes a hero, a folk legend, a madwoman and a traitor to the American cause." Abrahmson will first complete work on Room, a thriller starring Brie Larson. [Deadline]

Shrek and The Chronicles of Narnia helmer Andrew Adamson will bring the Dark Horse comic, Breath of Bones, to the big screen. The three-issue miniseries by Steve Niles (30 Days of Night), Matt Santoro, and Dave Watcher centered on a young boy who defends his village from a Nazi invasion with the help of a powerful Golem.
