'Deadpool' Movie will be Part of Shared 'X-men' Universe
True Believers, your patience has been rewarded. A couple of weeks ago we learned that 20th Century Fox had finally, after years of talking about it, gone ahead and green lit a Deadpool film that will probably star Ryan Reynolds. The Merc-with-a-Mouth was mostly without a mouth in X-men Origins: Wolverine eight years ago, but based on the amazing test footage leaked awhile back this new version will be closer to the chatty comic book version. He'll also be a part of the growing X-men universe being put together by Bryan Singer and writer Simon Kinberg, the latter really appearing to have taken over steering the ship. Kinberg tells Comicbook.com....
Kinberg: "There’s definitely a sort of overall plan that we’ve all been talking about for the X-Men universe now, and Deadpool obviously fits into that. So yeah, I guess I would say it's part of certainly an overall timeline and thought process that goes into these films, some of which is inspired by the comics and some which is inspired by seeing what Marvel’s done with telling a larger tapestry and linking all those movies together, even as they stand independently as well. The same kind of thought is going to go into these X-Men movies at Fox."
Singer's acknowledge that he and Fox are emulating the Marvel model should give us a pretty good idea where things are headed. The Deadpool script was written years ago by Zombieland duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, but that was when the X-men franchise looked very different. Chances are there will be some tweaking to make sure it fits with whatever is going on with X-men: Apocalypse, The Wolverine sequel, and other movies coming up. Deadpool is expected to slice up theaters on February 12th 2016, directed by Tim Miller.
