First Footage and Image from the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Animated Series
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy may be the top-grossing movie of the year, but none of it matters unless they have a cartoon. Only the most popular comic book characters get their own animated series, just look at the Avengers and Justice League. Well this past summer at San Diego Comic-Con it was revealed that not only would the team be getting a cinematic sequel in 2017, but that an animated TV show was also in the works, and now we have the first image and footage from it.
The series will air on Disney XD beginning in 2015, which would make for quite a night if paired with Star Wars Rebels. Capitalizing on the movie's success, the series will bring back all of the familiar characters: Rocket Raccoon, Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, and Drax, but with new voice actors. The story will be in-continuity, as well, taking place after the movie with Thanos playing a key role. Basically, Marvel is making sure everything ties in, even their cartoons, and fans of the shared universe will want to keep up with the Guardians' ongoing adventures.
What was not mentioned in the press release was any mention of James Gunn's involvement, so just how much the show will tie-in to the upcoming sequel is anybody's guess.
