Did you happen to forget about Tomorrowland in the year or so with barely a single significant update? The ultra-secret Disney project is spearheaded by Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof, and has been kept under tighter wraps than the Star Wars movies. That's all supposed to change this weekend with some kind of presentation during New York Comic-Con, but today EW has our first images from the film and its star, George Clooney.
Plot details have been scarce but Lindelof is quick to draw comparisons to the magic-based world of Harry Potter.
Lindelof: "What Hogwarts is to magic, Tomorrowland is to science: They are both easy to find if you are a wizard and very difficult to find if you're a Muggle. Walt Disney is not a character in our movie, but he is referenced as having some involvement in this mysterious place called Tomorrowland, as a huge futurist and aficionado of space travel, rocketry, cities of the future, and space travel."
One image features Clooney's reclusive scientist alongside Britt Robertson, who plays Casey Newton, a young girl who discovers a special pin that opens the door to Tomorrowland.
Lindelof: "There is a piece of technology in this pin, it's the kind of old-school pin you would wear on your lapel, and when you make physical contact with it, you have the illusion of being physically transported to another world, and that’s how Casey gets her first glimpse of Tomorrowland. She is a Muggle who accidentally wanders across Platform 9 ¾ and sees something she probably shouldn't have."
Hopefully this means a trailer or some footage will be revealed soon. Also starring Hugh Laurie, Keegan-Michael Key, Judy Greer, and Tim McGraw, Tomorrowland opens May 22nd 2015.
