Let's not hand any Best Actor awards to Benedict Cumberbatch just yet. While it's easy to start handicapping the films that have already been seen during the season's festivals, there are a handful of others yet to make an appearance that could be factors. One of those is American Sniper, which stars Bradley Cooper as Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, the best military sniper in history.
The first trailer has been released for the film based on Kyle's memoir, which Cooper scooped the rights to a couple of years back. Clint Eastwood came aboard more recently after Steven Spielberg dropped out, and at least judging by this footage he and Cooper seem to be doing the soldier's story justice. Over the course of his 10-year career Kyle scored more than 150 confirmed kills, earning him the admiration of his peers and a bounty on his head by Iraqi insurgents.
Cooper has put his heart and soul into this one to do right by Kyle's memory (he died in 2013), and we'll see how he fared when American Sniper opens Christmas Day, expanding January 16th 2015.
