For a show nobody will admit to liking, Baywatch was on television for a long time and has tons of fans. Hollywood recognized that and has been trying to turn it into a movie for years, plotting a couple of different approaches to the surf series. At one point Bill Hader was said to be eying the lead role, which his reps quickly shot down, but now it looks like a star has been found and shockingly it's "Franchise Viagra" himself, Dwayne Johnson. Pretty big gulf of difference between Hader and Johnson, just sayin'.
THR reports Johnson as being in talks for the film, which was most recently penned by Robert Ben Garant (Reno 911!) and will get rewrite from Justin Malen. Coming aboard to direct will be Sean Anders and John Morris, the duo behind We're the Millers and Horrible Bosses 2, which should tell you everything needed about the tone.
The big question is how Johnson plans to fit this into his schedule. Paramount will probably have to move fast with Johnson tied to a Shazam movie and a Journey 2 sequel.
