First Trailer for Russell Crowe's Directorial Debut, 'The Water Diviner'
As we've seen with Angelina Jolie of late, the transition from actor to director is smoother for some than others. When you've had a chance to work with many of the top filmmakers in Hollywood, picking up a few pointers is natural, and Russell Crowe must have been soaking it up like a sponge. He's directed a couple of smaller projects, mostly documentaries, but last year we learned he'd be making his feature debut with The Water Diviner, and the impressive first trailer has arrived for it.
Crowe stars as an Australian farmer with a gift for finding water, who travels to Turkey to locate his three missing sons four years after the Battle of Gallipoli. A strong supporting cast of Olga Kurylenko, Jai Courtney, Yilman Erdogan, and Cem Yilmaz co-star, but the attention will be on how Crowe handles himself behind the camera. He seems to have a firm grasp on the story's historical sweep, although there are stretches where it looks a little dry.
The Water Diviner opens December 26th in Australia but does not have a U.S. date yet.
