James Franco and David Gordon Green may not appear to be the most likely of pairs, but the two have worked with one another on a few different occasions. When Green made his turn into silly stoner comedies it was Franco who starred in two of them, Your Highness and Pineapple Express. One of those is considered cult classic and the other is barely considered at all. But Franco and Green are friends, and now the actor is helping get one of Green's longest-developing projects off the ground.
Franco is set to produce Goat, a frat house drama Green adapted years ago from Brad Land's novel with plans to direct it himself. That never happened and Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter) eyed the job for awhile with nothing moving forward. Now it's back on with Franco producing through his Rabbit Bandini label, and Andrew Neel (Darkon) on board to direct.
Land's acclaimed memoir tells of a traumatized 19-year-old boy who pledges a college fraternity alongside his brother. There he is tested and pushed to the limits in brutal fashion, all in the name of "brotherhood". [TheWrap]
