There's at least one person here at PDC who is a fan of David Spade's terrible white trash comedy, Joe Dirt, and it's certainly not me. So he, whose name rhymes with Don Bolen, should be happy with the news that a sequel is on the way to appease the ten people in the world clamoring for it. And by the way it's being distributed the other 99.9% of the world who hated it can easily avoid it.
According to Deadline, Joe Dirt 2 is being developed by Sony's online outlet Crackle for a digital release. It's a pretty big move for Spade as he will be starring and co-writing the script with SNL writer Fred Wolf, who will also serve as director. It's also the first ever digital-only sequel to a major studio film, if you consider Joe Dirt a major studio film. I guess it qualifies. Adam Sandler's Happy Madison label will be producing, adding this to their digital hold after striking an exclusive 4-picture deal with Netflix just days ago.
Production begins in November, and maybe it will be worth checking out of Brittany Daniel can be convinced to return.
