Back in 1986 The Jim Henson Company made one of the weirdest collaborations ever by joining with David Bowie for Labyrinth, a bizarre fantasy film that also starred a young Jennifer Connelly. I remember it being pretty terrible, and the box office was lousy, yet somehow it became a cult favorite to a lot of people who like really weird sh*t. And so there was the expected Internet celebration a few days ago when Variety reported a follow-up of some kind was on the way. Well, put the cork back in that champagne, people.
EW has clarified the reports, stating there is no new Labyrinth movie in the works and that the whole thing was just kind of blown out of proportion. The other movies mentioned in the Variety piece, sequels to Fraggle Rock and the equally odd Dark Crystal, are very real but don't seem to be coming any time soon. Like Labyrinth, they get mentioned all the time for reboots and remakes but nothing ever comes out of it. Doubtful these will, either.
